Detroit sports fans had a tough decision to make on Sunday night as Lions great Calvin Johnson was being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham was making his Summer League debut with the Detroit Pistons.
Personally, I had Calvin’s speech on the big screen and Cade’s debut on my phone with the volume off.
So, how did Cunningham play in his debut (albeit a glorified exhibition game) with the Pistons?
Cunningham started off hot by hitting a couple of early triples but when all was said and done, he shot just 5-for-17 with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 turnovers. Though Cade did struggle offensively in his first Summer League game, he was aggressive on defense as he had 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Some are already calling out (unfairly) Cade and the Pistons as the No. 2 overall pick, Jalen Green, looked dominant as he scored 23 points (9-of-18 shooting) in his Summer League debut with the Houston Rockets.
Cunningham will go head-to-head with Green on Tuesday night as the Pistons will square off against the Rockets at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
