The Detroit Red Wings walked away overtime winners in their 4th straight overtime, as Andreas Athanasiou beat Carolina Hurricanes goalie Eddie Lack to give Detroit a 4-3 win.
The spectacular goal (which you can watch below) was overshadowed by an injury sustained by Lack on the play. Athanasiou’s shoulder appears to hit Lack in the head right as the puck entered the net. Lack was down for several minutes with both teams surrounding him. He was eventually taken off on a stretcher but gave the fans in the arena and watching on TV a thumbs up, hopefully indicating he’ll be ok. The play was reviewed for possible goalie interference but the good goal call was confirmed.
Athanasiou’s OT winner was his 2nd overtime winner in as many days. Detroit is back for their 3rd game in 3 days tomorrow night as they’ll rematch the Hurricanes once again in Raleigh.
