Judge permits former MSU DE Auston Robertson to play JuCo football in Kansas

Among the many notable departures from the Michigan State football program this offseason included defensive end Auston Robertson.

The former 4-star prospect was dismissed from the team followed charges of criminal sexual conduct brought against him. The charges stemmed from an incident separate from the one that dominated the spring and summer months surrounding the team, ultimately leading to three additional players dismissed.

However, the 19-year-old Robertson has been reportedly permitted to resume playing football as early as this fall, per his attorney.

Robertson’s attorney Brent Leder said that Robertson has been accepted to take classes and play football for a community college in Garden City, Kansas, permitting that he continues to meet the requirement of wearing an GPA tether ordered by the judge on Tuesday.

Robertson was accused back in early April of sexual assaulting a 20-year-old woman in Meridian Township, a neighboring community of East Lansing. He was eventually arrested in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana later that month and charged with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, an offense that carries up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.

It was the latest off-the-field incident with Robertson going back to his senior year in high school. He was arrested on misdemeanor battery charges in January of 2016, stemming from an October 2015 incident. That particular arrest and subsequent charge led to a delay in him signing his national letter of intent with Michigan State. He didn’t sign with the Spartans until late March of 2016.

Here is a little bit of background on the school Robertson has been accepted to attend and play for this coming fall. The Broncbusters of Garden City Community College are the defending national champions of the National Junior College Athletic Association, and they are expected to contend for another national title after being named preseason No. 1 in the NJCAA.
