JUST IN: John Beilein close to signing ‘rolling contract’ extension with Michigan

For quite a while, John Beilein was not often mentioned amongst best coaches in college basketball. That status was reserved for guys like Coach K, Roy Williams, Jay Wright, etc. But following Michigan's NCAA Tournament run this past season, which saw them get all the way to the National Championship game against Villanova, the Wolverines head coach has finally been getting his due.

According to reports, Beilein is close to signing an extension with the Wolverines which could end up taking him through the remainder of his coaching career. When asked if the extension was a ‘Lifetime' deal, he responded, “It will be a rolling contract…this is new territory for just about everybody.

Beilein hopes to get the deal finalized as soon as possible so that it does not interfere with the recruiting process.

Just about a month ago, many Wolverines fans were shocked to hear that Beilein had interviewed with the Detroit Pistons for their vacant head coaching position. When all was said and done, the Pistons had not yet offered him the job and Beilein decided to withdraw his name from consideration and to remain at Michigan.

Beilein took over as head coach of the Wolverines prior to the 2007-2008 season and has since posted an overall record of 391-248, including two trips to the Final Four. This past season, Michigan went 33-8 and made a run in the NCAA Tournament but fell just short of a National Championship.
