His Houston Astros took down the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in Game 1 of the American League Division Series by a 6-2 final. Verlander once again is headed into the record books as he passed Roger Clemens on the career postseason strikeout list.

His 7th inning strikeout of Tampa's Yandy Diaz was the 174th of his playoff career, and now only trails retired pitchers John Smoltz (199) and Andy Pettitte (183).

With the win, Verlander now has an 8-0 record in divisional playoff games, and it was his 14th postseason win. He's once again a contender for the Cy Young Award.

Way to go, JV!
