Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was already playing at an MVP level last season before his lingering back injury forced him to miss the remainder of 2019.
But apparently, Stafford has his eyes set on yet another MVP-worthy year.
During NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football”, former Detroit Lions wideout and current commentator Nate Burleson revealed that Stafford has a bold goal for himself going into 2020. Burleson said that Stafford sent him a text message that read: “Tell Peter to forget the dark horse part – I’m going for the MVP!”

We’re certainly no strangers to Stafford’s abilities, having watched him closely since the team took him first overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. Prior to being shut down last season, Stafford had averaged 312.4 passing yards per game, 8.6 yards per attempt and a QB rating of 106.0.
We’ve no doubt that a healthy Stafford can repeat his performance again this season!
