Where will Matthew Stafford play in 2021?
Personally, I believe the Detroit Lions would be crazy to part ways with Stafford as he is still a very good quarterback that can win football games if he actually has a supporting cast on offense and a respectable defense.
That being said, I do (slightly) understand that some people are ready to move on from Stafford and I would not blame him for wanting to move on to a franchise closer to contending for a Super Bowl.
In a piece recently published on ESPN, NFL executives made some predictions for 2021 and one of those predictions included either Stafford or Carson Wentz heading to the Indianapolis Colts.
From ESPN:
Enter Stafford, whose trade viability has never felt more palpable after 12 years in Detroit.
With the Lions set to hire the fourth coach during Stafford’s tenure, people in the building are openly wondering whether Stafford just doesn’t have another rebuild in him. The Lions are restructuring, as new chair/owner Sheila Ford Hamp seeks to hire a new coach and general manager after firing Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn.
They tried. It hasn’t worked. Maybe the new coach and general manager will think otherwise.
But there’s plenty of value in a 32-year-old widely considered a top-12 quarterback who comes cheaper than most starters. Stafford’s $34.95 million cap hit in 2021 is misleading. A $9 base million is the only money due next season, and the Colts are slated to have $57.2 million in cap space. That’s good value for a high-level player who has 44,816 career yards, 279 touchdowns and 143 interceptions.
Nation, would you like to see Stafford get a fresh start with the Indianapolis Colts?
What is the trade package? Sure they have cap space but didn’t the Colts trade away their first round pick for DeForrest Buckner? These articles always get written without thinking about what the Lions would ask for in return; and is their asking price too high?
