The Joe Louis Arena will soon be nothing but a memory.
On December 12, 1979, the Joe Louis Arena hosted its first event when the University of Michigan squared off against the University of Detroit in a college basketball game. 15 days later, the Detroit Red Wings hosted their first game at the JLA as they lost to the St. Louis Blues 3-2.
Now, nearly 40 years later, ‘The Joe’ is almost no more as demolition of the arena is nearly complete.
On Wednesday, former Red Wings Joey Kocur, Darren McCarty, and Kris Draper met at the Joe Louis Arena for one final center ice faceoff.
Check it out.

To be honest, it is hard to look at those photos without my eyes becoming a little wet.
Lots of great memories from that place…
