While rumors surround Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond concerning a potential trade, it doesn’t sound as though head coach Dwane Casey is putting too much stock into it.
In fact, he was complimentary of Drummond’s abilities and stated that there would naturally be interest in him from other teams due to his performance on the court.
“I had a conversation with Andre, but I’m not going to talk about what it was,” Casey said before the Pistons faced Golden State on Saturday night. “But most of the players in this league understand there’s always going to be rumors — and if you’re about anything, you’re always going to have interest. If you’re not producing or not getting the job done, nobody’s going to be calling, you’re not going to be seen in the rumors section. But if you’re doing a good job or elite at what you do, people are going to call and have interest in you. There’s always going to be rumors.”
Of course, Drummond has established himself as one of the premier rebounders in recent memory. The free-agent to be would bring an immediate boost to any team looking to make a playoff run, or to be the centerpiece of a rebuilding effort.
While the Pistons currently sit with a 13-23 record, trade talks will naturally heat up for a team that could potentially be looking to sell off assets with an eye on the future. Team owner Tom Gores kept the door open, saying the team had to “look at everything“.
