Things are not well in Hockeytown.
The Detroit Red Wings are in the midst of a full-scale and difficult rebuild, and they’re going to see their non-playoff streak extend to a fourth season come spring.

Last night’s 6-0 drubbing against the re-vamped Toronto Maple Leafs was just the latest in a series of embarrassing setbacks. The team is now 0-5-2 in their past seven and haven’t scored a goal in nearly 160 minutes of hockey; it was also the 11th game this year they’ve lost by at least three goals. For reference, they lost 11 total games last year by 3+ goals.
As it stands right now, they’re on pace for only 52 points. It would be their lowest point total in a full season since the 1985-86 season (Steve Yzerman’s third season), when they amassed a 17-57-6 record for a mere 40 points.
It would technically be their lowest total points in a season since 2013; however, that was the lockout-shortened season.
New general manager Steve Yzerman definitely has his hands full as he attempts to undo the damage set by former GM Ken Holland and turn this team back into contenders.
