On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings announced they were waiving defensemen, Jonathan Ericsson.
A day later, it was announced that Ericsson had cleared waivers and was assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, the Red Wings did their best to trade Ericsson but there were no takers.
Before waiving Jonathan Ericsson, the Detroit Red Wings did try to trade him. They were unable to find a trade partner, explaining why he cleared.
Speculation is that this could be the beginning of the end for Ericsson in the NHL. If so, it’s a testament to his career as he was the last-overall draft choice in 2002, but wound up playing 662 games.
Nation, do you think Ericsson will eventually make his way back to the Red Wings or are his days in the Red Wings' system limited?
