If you making plans to go shopping for a bunch of snacks in anticipation of Casey Mize’s first start on Sunday with the Detroit Tigers, you may want to pump the brakes.
Prior to Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, which looks like it will begin in a rain delay, Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire was asked by Jim Price about who Sunday’s starter will be.
Gardenhire’s reply shattered our hopes and dreams of Mize making his MLB debut on Sunday. (Unless Gardy is just messing with us, which is very possible considering his personality)
“His first name starts with a D. We haven’t announced it yet, but it does start with a D.”
Considering the only two pitchers who are either on the 30-man roster or taxi-squad are Daniel Norris and David McCay, we are assuming it will be Norris who gets the nod.
Oh well, I guess I will have to save my “Oh Mize!!! Detroit Tigers call up No. 1 prospect Casey Mize to make MLB debut” title for another day.
Ron Gardenhire on today's pregame radio interview with Jim Price, asked who tomorrow's starter is:
"His first name starts with a D. We haven't announced it yet, but it does start with a D."
