Who will be the next head coach of the Detroit Lions?
Well, we know it will not be the fan-favorite choice as Dearborn native Robert Saleh is heading to the New York Jets and we know it won’t be Arthur Smith as the Atlanta Falcons will reportedly make his signing official sometime soon.
So, will the Lions hire former Bengals head coach, Marvin Lewis? What about Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy or Saints assistant HC Dan Campbell?
Or, could the Lions go in a different direction and hire a coach who has not yet interviewed?
One name I have seen thrown out a bit lately is Los Angeles Rams‘ defensive coordinator, Brandon Staley.
In his first season as DC, Staley, who is 38-years-old, led the Rams’ defensive unit to the No. 4 ranking in the league when it comes to DVOA.
So, why is Staley all of a sudden becoming a potential candidate for the Lions? Well, on Thursday, the Lions announced they have hired former Rams director of college scouting Brad Holmes to be their next general manager and he obviously knows Staley well.
Now, as far as we know, the Lions have not yet put in a request to interview Staley, but don’t be at all surprised if they bring him in for an interview as soon as Monday (if the Rams are eliminated from the playoffs this weekend by the Packers).
