Injury update: Rondon throws bullpen session

It is another season of Detroit Tigers baseball, and another season where the bullpen will be the Achilles heel when it comes to winning and losing games this season. One part of that bullpen the Tigers are high on going into 2015 is reliever Bruce Rondon.

Rondon is coming off of Tommy John surgery, which sidelined him for the entire 2014 campaign. He is one of many Tigers who will be looking to return the full health and contribute to the team’s success this season, hopefully en route to a fifth consecutive AL Central division title.

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus uncommitted about Opening Day starter

Verlander

Justin Verlander has been the Opening Day starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers for the past seven seasons. That is the second longest streak in team history behind Jack Morris who made 11 consecutive Opening Day starts from 1980-1990.

Will Verlander make it eight years in a row that he is named the starting pitcher to start off the season? That decision will be left up to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus who does not seem willing to give out too much information. The manager did concede that Verlander is being considered for Opening Day.

Video: Yoenis Cespedes blasts grand slam in Grapefruit League debut

Yoenis Cespedes is starting his Detroit Tigers career with a bang. Cespedes hit an absolute bomb of a grand slam today in the Grapefruit League opener against the Baltimore Orioles. The grand slam extend the Tigers lead to 11-0 in the 4th as the Tigers would go on to dismantle the Orioles 15-2. Let’s hope this is a sign off things to come with Cespedes. No videos were available at the game today but thankfully a fan took his own for our viewing pleasure. What a beautiful sight.

Spring Training Tradition: Ernie Harwell recites “Voice of the Turtle”

Today marks the Detroit Tigers‘ Grapefruit League opener for the 2015 season. This of course means that it is time for Ernie Harwell to give us his rendition of “Voice of the Turtle.”

For, lo, the winter is past,

The rain is over and gone

The flowers appear on the Earth

The time of the singing of birds is come

And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

The Tigers will face off against the Baltimore Orioles today in Lakeland, Florida at 1 p.m. and can be heard on WXYT-FM (97.1). Dan Dickerson and Jim Price will once again be back in the booth to bring us the sights and sounds of Detroit Tigers baseball.
