Western Michigan fans were thrown for a bit of a loop on Friday morning, when most woke up to the news that head coach PJ Fleck is leaving the program to take the head coaching job at the University of Minnesota. One of the first things fans have been wondering has been what will happen to the now famous phrase, “Row The Boat”.
Fleck brought the mantra to Kalamazoo when he was hired 4 years ago, and it’s now become a well known motivator across the region and the country as the Broncos headed to the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.
According to WMU Athletic Director Kathy Beauregard, the phrase will stay in Kalamazoo. The school retained the right as part of the contract.
Looks like Fleck won’t do much rowing in the ‘Land of 10,000 Lakes”.
At least Fleck is used to one thing, and that’s losing to Wisconsin.
While @Coach_Fleck is leaving, #rowtheboat will stay @WMU_Football. School retained the rights to the phrase as part of contract, AD says.
