JUST IN: Wolverines players encouraged by Tarik Black’s recovery progress

As if it were at all possible, Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Tarik Black is as anxious to return to the game as the fans are for him. Luckily it seems like he may not be waiting that much longer.

Tarik has been injured since late August, when he suffered a fracture in his right foot prior to the Wolverines opening their season. It’s the same injury he suffered previously, but in the opposite foot this time.

While no date has been given for his return, Tarik has been putting in the work day in and day out. Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson has gained more and more hope at practices of a not-too-distant return for Black.

“We’ve been gaining confidence every day at practice,” quarterback Shea Patterson said Tuesday. “Having guys like (tight end) Nick (Eubanks) and (receiver) Nico (Collins) and possibly Tarik back, it makes things that much better.”

“Could be this week, could be (the next game) or the week after that,” Patterson said. “I see him every day and he’s working his tail off.”

Michigan fans are surely hoping for a Tarik Black return this coming Saturday, when the Wolverines play their annual rivalry game against the Michigan State Spartans. Though Michigan is favored in the matchup as of right now, any help is surely appreciated.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh remains confident in the idea that Tarik will be back this season. Nico Collins shares that sentiment.

“I see him every day, every day he’s moving,” Collins said. “Out there running routes. I feel like he’ll be back (at some point). It’s been hurting him to sit, he wants to be back bad. … He’s doing his rehab. He’s on the treadmill. He looks pretty good. Hopefully he can come back soon.

“This week, hopefully. Next (game) even better.”
