Game Notes:

Well, on a cold afternoon in Detroit, the Tigers planned to sweep the Twins; however, that wasn’t to be. The Twins took it to the Tigers 11-5, putting 5 runs up in the sixth inning to take a lead they never relinquished. Jordan Zimmermann struggled, to put it nicely, and didn’t make it out of the fifth inning. He was tagged by Twins hitters for four hits, 5 runs, and his ERA jumped from a 1.50 to a 5.06, earning him his first loss of the season. Anibal Sanchez relieved Zimmermann in the fifth, and on the second pitch he threw Twins right fielder, Max Kepler, put it 20 rows up down the right field line. It just continued to get worse for Sanchez who yielded five more runs, six in total, and left with the score 11-2.

Even in such a dreary game, there were a few bright spots for the club. First, Miguel Cabrera went deep for the first time this season and so did Justin UptonJaCoby Jones hit the first triple of his career, his second hit of the day. And finally, the much-anticipated debut of the Tigers no. 5 prospect, Joe Jimenez, happened today. He looked good too. He earned his first MLB strikeout, k-ing Byron Buxton on a nasty slider.

Up Next:

The Tigers travel to the Cleveland Indians tomorrow, sending LHP Daniel Norris to the hill to face off against Trevor Bauer.
