2 Top candidates that could replace Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh

Is it time for Michigan to go in a different direction?

There is no question about it, Saturday’s embarrassing loss to Michigan State is the low point for Jim Harbaugh since he took over as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines.

Sure, the Wolverines have been stomped by Ohio State on multiple occasions but none of those beatdowns were as bad as being beat by an inferior Spartans team that was coming off of an embarrassing loss to Rutgers in East Lansing.

Following yesterday’s loss, just about everybody and their brother came out of the woodwork to suggest (again) that it is time for Michigan to get rid of Harbaugh.

On Saturday evening, we released a list of 5 potential replacements for Harbaugh, and today we are going to add a couple more to the list.

Here are 2 more candidates to replace Harbaugh as the Wolverines’ head coach.

Luke Fickell

Luke Fickell is currently the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats, who just so happen to be undefeated. You can bet Fickell will be mentioned for any major college program that ends up having an opening. The question is, will he leave Cincinnati?

Fickell was rumored to be the next head coach at Michigan State before he eventually decided to stay put with the Bearcats. That being said, Michigan State is not Michigan and if the Wolverines come calling, Fickell would almost certainly entertain the offer. (Even though he is an Ohio State guy)

David Shaw

Another interesting option to replace Jim Harbaugh if he is indeed out as Michigan’s head coach is David Shaw, who is currently the head coach at Stanford.

Shaw is a well-respected coach who has led the Cardinal to a record of 86-34 over nine seasons. He has led Stanford to 2 Rose Bowl victories, including one in 2015 when the Cardinal finished the season ranked No. 3 in the nation after a 12-2 season.

Like Michigan, Stanford puts academics first so making the move would be one Shaw could handle.

In my opinion, if the Wolverines do decide to go in a different direction, David Shaw would be the perfect hire. He demands respect and he will not only put emphasis on greatness on the field but also on greatness in the classroom.

Nation, who would you prefer to replace Harbaugh at Michigan? Fickell? Shaw? Somebody else?
