The first round of the 2021 NFL Draft is in the books and the Detroit Lions got one of their top-rated targets as they selected OT Penei Sewell with the No. 7 pick.
Now, the Lions GM Brad Holmes and his team shift their focus to Day 2, which will feature Rounds 2 and 3 of the draft.
Following Round 1, Holmes told reporters that his focus in Round 2 would be to get the “best football player” available.
So, who might that “best football player” be?
Here are five options that could be available when the Lions are on the clock with the No. 41.
LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame
Owusu-Koramoah (JOK) is the best coverage linebacker in the draft and to be honest, I am surprised he is available. Will he slide to 41? Time will tell. Brad Holmes may have to move up to get him.
WR Elijah Moore, Ole Miss
The Lions need help at wide receiver and Elijah Moore out of Ole Miss is arguably the best one left on the board. Personally, I would wait until Round 3 to get a wide receiver but I would not hate this pick.
S Trevon Moehrig, TCU
When it comes to the safety position, the Lions need help in a big way. If Moehrig slides to No. 41, the Lions should rush to the podium to select him.
LB Azeez Ojulari, Georgia
Though the Lions linebacker situation may not be quite as bad as some make it out to be, it is still a position of need, and Azeez Ojulari is the next best behind JOK.
CB Asante Samuel Jr., Florida State
The Lions really are hoping that 2020 was a fluke year for CB Jeff Okudah and that he will make a huge improvement in 2021, but that Lions could still use some depth in the secondary and Samuel Jr. could help solve the problem. That being said, I am a bit concerned about his size, which would force him to stay on the inside.
Nation, which players do you think the Lions should target in Round 2?
