The Detroit Lions are entering a new era without longtime quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and a bevy of draft picks.
And the transaction has been the talk of the NFL world, from what the Lions can expect from having a new starting quarterback for the first time in 12 seasons to how Stafford will perform under the bright lights of Hollywood.
Former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Carson Palmer joined “The Jim Rome Show” to offer his thoughts on the deal, during which he offered the implication that the Rams essentially traded for an older version of Jared Goff, but had good things to say about Stafford.
“The first thing I thought was, ‘Man the Rams gave up a whole lot to get a similar QB’,” he said. “I think Stafford is an underrated passer; you just haven’t seen him play. The nation hasn’t seen him play outside of a few Thursday Thanksgiving games.”
“I think he’s (Stafford) really underrated with his abilities to throw the football. But I feel like a swap for him and Jared Goff was giving up a lot by the Rams to get a similar QB. A guy who’s talented in throwing the football but not overly talented in running the football, not overly dynamic or much more than Jared Goff. But Goff can play – he can spin it and throw the ball down the field accurately.”
Palmer then noted the stability under head coach Sean McVay that Stafford can now enjoy after having gone through several head coaches during his time in Detroit – and even predicted that Stafford’s best years of his career is ahead of him.
“I really feel like the Rams gave up a whole lot to get a player that’s really similar – just older than Goff,” he said. “But with all the turmoil that Matt’s gone through, having the stability now in LA with Sean McVay and his playcalling, the offensive line they have that’s been able to stay intact and get better to gether, you’ll see the best years of Stafford’s career over the next three to four years in Los Angeles.”

Apparently Carson Palmer has been smoking way too much of that weed. Jared Goff cannot hold Stafford’s jockstrap or anything else and you’re going to find that out this year with the Rams, that’s a fact. Carson Palmer, you’re great at throwing a football but apparently you don’t know squat about what you see in players.
This will be a steal for Detroit, Carsons right. In fact Goff shows up in most big games, Stafford sure never did., always chocked. Detroit will get a pick in first round within the top 10 in 2022 mark my words. What’s Goff 26, 27years old? Stafford at least 6 years older with lots of wear and tear and multiple back injuries’.
