Dan Campbell upset after Lions’ secondary fails to execute game plan

Heading into Sunday’s game between the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins, head coach Dan Campbell made it very clear that the Lions’ secondary was going to have to be physical with the Dolphins’ speedy wide receivers. If you watched the game, which the Dolphins came back to win 31-27, you know the Lions’ secondary was not physical at all, and Dolphins WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were able to do whatever they wanted to.

What did Dan Campbell say after the game?

Following the game, Campbell was not too happy that the Lions’ secondary was unable to execute the game plan that had been put in place throughout the week.

“We didn’t hit them,” Campbell said. “We didn’t hit them at the line. That was part of the game plan. We didn’t disrupt. We did not disrupt, and when you let them do that and get into your defense—we didn’t want to turn it into a track meet and it was a track meet.”

But Dan Campbell did not only blame his players, he also blamed himself and the Lions’ coaching staff, as he has done after each and every loss this season.

“It’s all of us,” Campbell said. “When this is the result, it’s on every one of us, including myself.”

Where will Dan Campbell go from here?

When asked if he will consider giving CB Jerry Jacobs a bigger role moving forward, Campbell did not hesitate.

“Oh yeah, we’re going to be looking at Jerry,” Campbell said. “We’ll be looking at everybody.”

“We want to make sure Jerry is ready to go and then let him compete and see where he is,” Campbell said. “We still feel like last week was a step in continuing to get his confidence back, getting his legs under him. And that started with (special) teams, and he got a little bit more in this department. And once we feel like, ‘Okay, he’s right. He can take the load,’ and he competitively is better than one of the other guys, then he’s going to get his chance.”
