Dear Ronnie Bell: One play in life will never define you

Dear Ronnie Bell,

Life is not easy.

On Saturday night, after being down 21-0 to Penn State, during a whiteout game in Happy Valley, you and your Michigan teammates stormed back after being down 21-0.

In fact, your team had a chance to tie the score at 28-28 when something out of the ordinary happened. You dropped what would have been the game-tying touchdown pass from Shea Patterson.

It is surely a pass you have caught hundreds of times during practice and you will catch hundreds of times more as your career moves forward at Michigan and potentially as a professional.

But on this one play, on this one Saturday night in October, you came up short.

Ronnie Bell, Michigan

Following the drop, you were shown on the sidelines in tears. As the tears ran down your face, it was clear how disappointed and upset you were because you felt your let your team and the fans down.

But, Ronnie, I want you to know that one play will NEVER define YOU as a football player or as a person.

I apologize for all of the ‘so-called’ fans who called you out on social media and said some completely inappropriate things to you. Please know that those who chose to insult you, DO NOT represent the majority of the Michigan fan base. In fact, they represent a very small percentage of fans.

Ronnie, thank you for representing the University of Michigan with class and dignity. This moment may be difficult to deal with now, but in the future, you will look at it as a moment that helped make you into the person you will become.

God Bless and GO BLUE!
