I’m not going to lie to you. When the Detroit Lions fired Jim Caldwell, I not only predicted they would hire Matt Patricia to become their next head coach but I hoped it would happen.

That’s right folks, I bought into the “Patriot Way” and I was dead wrong.
That being said, it took less than one full season for me to lose faith in Patricia and I have been begging for the Lions to fire him for the past two years, but who listens to me?
In fact, I have not only lobbied for Patricia to be fired but I have advocated for them to go out and hire Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, Eric Bieniemy.
Somehow, Bieniemy is still available and I would be ecstatic if the Lions were to somehow hire him to replace Patricia.
But there is one major problem.

The Lions will not be the only team this coming offseason to need a head coach and one of those teams, assuming Romeo Crennel does not continue, is the Houston Texans.
On Thanksgiving, the Lions, who were led by Matthew Stafford, took on the Texans, who were led by Deshaun Watson. Heading into the game, I looked at the game as a sort of showcase to impress Bieniemy and the Texans walked away as the winners.
If both the Lions and Texans are looking for a new head coach in the offseason, you can bet Bieniemy will be on their shortlist. But you can also bet the Texans are by far the more attractive destination for an offensive-minded candidate like Bieniemy. After all, which team would you rather take over? A team with a 33-year-old (almost) quarterback like Stafford or a 25-year-old signal-caller like Watson? Yeah, it’s a simple answer.
Did the Detroit Lions debacle against the Texans cost them Eric Bieniemy? Probably not, as there is a bigger picture, but it certainly did not help the cause.
