The Detroit Lions entered Sunday afternoon’s game against the Oakland Raiders with a 3-3-1 record and in desperate need of a win in order to have a realistic shot at the playoffs.
And as they’ve done so many times before, they weren’t able to come through when it mattered most.
The Raiders broke up a desperate last second fourth-and-goal attempt by Detroit to preserve a 31-24 win, meaning the Lions are now 3-4-1 on the year. Their defense wasn’t able to come up with necessary stops, allowing the Raiders to drive 75 yards down the field in the game’s final minutes to take the lead back.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford played well in defeat, going 26-41 for 406 yards, three touchdown passes and an interception. Oakland’s Derek Carr was 20-31 for 289 yards and two touchdowns.
Josh Jacobs ran for 120 yards in the first half and scored two touchdowns for the Raiders, who improved to 4-4.
The Lions will face the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field next week.
