Depending on how the remainder of the 2020 season goes for the Detroit Lions will play a big role in whether or not Matthew Stafford is part of the team’s future plans.

If the Lions put together some wins and end up making the playoffs, Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn will be safe and it would be likely that Stafford would stick around, probably even getting a contract extension.
But if the Lions end up slipping and not contending for a playoff spot, there is a good chance that Quinntricia is out and Stafford could be out with them.
According to the most recent NFL Mock Draft by Jordan Reid of The Draft Network, the Lions will have the No. 8 overall pick and they will use said pick to select Stafford’s replacement. That replacement quarterback, according to Reid, would be North Dakota State QB, Trey Lance.

From The Draft Network:
This pick may come as a huge surprise, but allow me to explain. As the weeks progress and despite the win over a talented Cardinals team, head coach Matt Patricia has a 10-24-1 record as head coach of the team. Matthew Stafford is still a top 12-15 QB in the league in my opinion, but a teardown and rebuild from top to bottom would be in the best interest of this team. The team has straddled mediocrity for quite some time with a good QB, but it’s a team that seems to be stuck in neutral with GM Bob Quinn and Patricia at the helm. As difficult as it would be, shipping Stafford elsewhere and starting over with a new regime is arguably the best option for the long-term future of the team. Lance is a highly-intriguing QB prospect that will be tabbed as the future of the franchise by the team that drafts him.
Nation, if the Lions do struggle and decide to clean house, would you be happy if Trey Lance is selected to replace Stafford?
