Throughout Isiah Thomas‘ career, he accomplished just about everything, including winning Back-to-Back NBA Championships with the Detroit Pistons.
But one thing Thomas was never able to do was play on an Olympic team.
In 1992, the ‘Dream Team’ was assembled and when Thomas was left off the roster, many speculated that it was Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan who blocked him.
On Sunday night, the first two parts of the highly anticipated documentary ‘The Last Dance,’ which focuses on Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, will air on ESPN.
Thomas, who was interviewed for the documentary, says he was asked by ESPN about being snubbed for the ‘Dream Team’ and if he believes Jordan was involved.
From The Detroit News:
“(ESPN) asked me about the Dream Team and this is what I said: MJ himself, I’ve never heard him say he didn’t want me to play. I’ve heard people say it for him,” Thomas said. “Every time I’ve been around (Jordan), he’s been gracious and honorable, and I respect his word.
“We were all pretty brash when we were young and none of us bit our tongues. I can’t find or see anywhere that he said it. I’ve seen where other people said what he supposedly said. I can’t find one quote where anybody said anything negative about me — and believe me, I’ve checked. All I can do is take the man at his word.”
Nation, what do you think? Did Michael Jordan block Isiah Thomas from being on the 1992 Olympic basketball team?
