The hope was that after landing Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons would take a step forward during the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, Cade Cunningham suffered a season-ending injury, and the Pistons (14-39) are currently tied for the second-worst record in the NBA. The dream scenario is that Detroit wins the Draft Lottery so they can select Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick, but in the latest 2023 NBA Mock Draft put out by Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Pistons did not get that lucky.

Wembanyama is hands down the most-talented prospect who will be in the 2023 NBA Draft, and he is arguably the most talented prospect in the history of basketball. Yes, I am including LeBron James in the conversation. If the Pistons land the No. 1 pick, they will spring to the podium to take Wembanyama, but if they slide down, they will have a tough decision to make.

With the No. 2 overall pick, Givony has the Pistons selecting PG Scoot Henderson out of the G League.

Scoot is an elite level point guard and one of the best lead guard prospects to come along in years. He’s far from a perfect prospect and isn’t a finished product by a long stretch but has elite physical tools and the ability to take over games, even as a teenager playing against grown men.
Scoot is a rock solid and explosive athlete with broad shoulders, a strong frame and good above the rim ability. He’s got all the size and quickness you look for in a high level NBA point guard, plus long arms and the ability to adsorb contact.
He’s a creative finisher, who is at his best when he’s driving hard to the rim and scoring in the paint or getting his own from mid range. It’s hard to overstate his explosive driving ability – he’s a freak athlete with an elite first step and crazy strength (imagine Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook)
