On Friday, the Detroit Tigers, who have been off since dropping both games of a doubleheader on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, will be in Pittsburgh to begin a 3-game set against the Pirates.
For those of us who are patiently awaiting the Major League debut of the Tigers top pitching prospect, Casey Mize, we will have to wait a bit longer as the pitching rotation for this weekend has been released and Mize’s name is nowhere to be found.
Instead, the Tigers will go with Opening Day starter Matthew Boyd on Friday, Ivan Nova on Saturday, and my preseason pick to be the Tigers best pitcher in 2020, Spencer Turnbull for the series finale on Sunday.
Scheduled SPs for Tigers @ Pirates series this weekend:
Friday: RHP Matthew Boyd (0-1, 7.20 ERA) vs. LHP Steven Brault (0-0, 0.00)
Saturday: RHP Ivan Nova (0-0, 4.22) vs. LHP Derek Holland (0-0, 4.76)
Sunday: RHP Spencer Turnbull (1-0, 2.45) vs. RHP Joe Musgrove (0-3, 6.75)

The Tigers currently sit at 5-5, which puts them fourth in the American League Central, 4.0 games behind the red-hot Minnesota Twins, who are off to a 10-2 start.
