WESTERN MICHIGAN FOOTBALL – GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Two young upstarts that have taken the nation by storm. One is hooked on a feeling and one rows the boat. These two teams are easily likable and have come onto the scene swiftly and strongly after years of obscurity. Western Michigan has come into its own behind enigmatic leader P.J. Fleck. The Guardians have come together despite their stark differences under the leadership of endlessly likable Starlord. The comparison is almost uncanny and we all hope that their meteoric rise to the top doesn’t become a flash in the pan.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN FOOTBALL – NOVA CORPS
Both of these groups have been overtaken by the aforementioned new kids on the block. Despite this, no one can take away what both of these programs have created. Central have developed one of the steady Group of Five programs and continue to put out impressive levels of NFL talent. Nova Corps have taken a back seat to the Guardians, even in their own movie, but continue to protect the galaxy against the various threats of space. Western and the Guardians may have taken some of the spotlight, but Nova Corps and Central Michigan can always be relied upon.
EASTERN MICHIGAN FOOTBALL – WATCHMEN
The two biggest downers on this list; both organizations have run under the threat of being disbanded. EMU was in discussions to cease their football operations after years of disappointment. The Watchmen fell apart after the actions of the Comedian and later, the manipulative ways of Ozymandias. These two have a lot of charm in them when they come around to succeeding. EMU this year have shocked many by appearing in a bowl game for the first time in years. The Watchmen couldn’t stop the actions of Ozymandias but still stood in his way. These two seem to have all of the cards stacked against them and it seems unlikely that they will ever see sustained success without another pitfall.
