The Detroit Tigers have enjoyed a successful season from Jonathan Schoop, who is a pending free-agent and could be an attractive option for several MLB clubs looking to make a run in the postseason.
Schoop, who was seen hugging his ex-teammates on the Baltimore Orioles before Thursday night’s game at Comerica Park, isn't thinking about the possibility that tonight could be his last appearance wearing the Old English D.
“I’m not even letting myself think about it. You see me out there, enjoying my teammates, hitting BP and just controlling the things that I control,” Schoop said outside the Tigers’ dugout about two hours before the game. “The things that I can control are going out there and playing hard and helping my team win.”
He's hit 17 home runs with 60 RBI while hitting .284 in 99 games for the Tigers this season. The MLB Trade Deadline is set for 4:00 PM EST tomorrow afternoon.
“I think we’ve got good things going on and a good group of guys,” Schoop said. “I’m feeling really good here. But again, I can’t control whether I stay. The only thing I can control for sure is go out there today and give 110 percent.”
