Forward Valtteri Filppula is returning to the Red Wings on a two-year deal.

This will be Filppula’s second tour of duty with the Red Wings, as he laced up the skates for Detroit from 2006 to 2013 when he left to sign a free agent deal with Steve Yzerman’s Tampa Bay Lightning. He has also played for the Philadelphia Flyers and spent last season with the New York Islanders.

He was a member of the Stanley Cup champion winning team in 2008.
