It has been a tough stretch for Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans as they have gone a combined 25-24 since the start of the 2016 season. That, of course, comes off a three-year run with saw the Spartans go a combined 36-5, which included a College Football Playoff appearance and a Rose Bowl win.

Over the past couple of years, the Spartans’ offense has struggled and Dantonio has refused to make the necessary changes to his coaching staff. Because of this, even the biggest Michigan State supporters have lobbied for Dantonio to be fired or to resign.
This past weekend, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who is now an analyst for Fox Sports, criticized Dantonio about the decline in MSU’s player development.
On Tuesday, Dantonio spoke to the media and his response to Meyer’s critique show just how out of touch he is at this point. Dantonio responded to the critique about the decline of MSU’s player development by citing how Darqueze Dennard, Trae Waynes, and Jack Conklin evolved into first-round NFL picks.
There is one problem, Mark, of the players you mentioned, the most recent played for you in 2015, which is exactly the point Meyer was making.

Time will tell if Dantonio returns to the Spartans in 2020, but his actions show it’s time to walk away.
