The Los Angeles Rams came from behind in exciting fashion this evening at SoFi Stadium, taking down the San Francisco 49ers by a 20-17 final score. And in an ironic twist, they did so on the one-year anniversary of the blockbuster trade that sent quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions to the Rams.
It’s been a whirlwind last month for Stafford, picking up his first three career playoff victories after a decade in the Motor City. And you can bet that he was in a good mood in the immediate aftermath of the win. As he held the George Halas Trophy while speaking to Terry Bradshaw, Stafford explained that the reality is even better than the anticipation.
“This is a whole lot better than I thought it was going to be man,” Stafford said. “This is an unbelievable team, unbelievable atmosphere tonight. Thank you guys for coming out and making it loud and proud! I’m so happy to be a part of this team. These guys, I’m looking at their faces, they put so much work into this thing. This is for everybody, I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
“We’ve been dealing with that all year. Just show up and play, do our job and go to work. With these special guys, it’s a blessing to be a part of it.”
Stafford finished 31 of 45 for 337 yards and two touchdowns, and he and his teammates will be taking on the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks from today on their home turf in Super Bowl LVI.
