Matthew Stafford says loss vs. Panthers ‘doesn’t define’ Detroit Lions

Embarrassing, disheartening, despicable, mortifying, and humiliating.

Those are some words that come to mind when thinking about the Detroit Lions 20-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon. But to be completely honest, those same words have defined the Lions franchise for way too long.

But Matthew Stafford refuses to allow Sunday’s loss to define the Lions offense or the team in general.

“Obviously not fun to be part of a game where we don’t score any points and really don’t even threaten it. We’ve got to play better on offense and give ourselves a chance to win,” he said.

“It’s one football game. It doesn’t define us as an offense, or us as a team. We have to go out there in short order here on Thursday and play better. I know we’ll be motivated to—I know I will. I know guys are itching to probably get out there and go and make some plays and get that bad taste out of our mouth.”

To be fair, Stafford continues to say all of the right things. He does not point fingers (except at himself) and he continues to play hard.

But the question is, does Stafford really believe that it is just one game we are worried about when it comes to the history of the Lions?

With all due respect, Matthew, it has been a lot more than just one game that has defined this Lions team.
