Meinke: Detroit Lions have made decision on Matthew Stafford…at least for now

Ever since the Detroit Lions got off to a 1-3 start, there has been plenty of speculation as to if the Lions would trade Matthew Stafford before the Nov. 3 NFL trade deadline.

That speculation has grown louder and louder since Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5.

According to Kyle Meinke of MLive, the Lions will not trade Stafford before the deadline.

“What I do know is the Lions aren’t going to trade Matthew Stafford before the trade deadline. Period. It’s not happening. It’s just not compatible with where they are as an organization. This is Year 3 of an unexpected rebuild, and ownership says they expect to compete for the playoffs this season. With a seventh spot available under the new NFL rules, seven weeks of games against almost exclusively crappy teams, and nobody showing a pulse out in the NFC East, there’s no reason to think the Lions can’t join that race. But they probably need a quarterback to do it.”

Meinke added that if things go south, the Lions could decide to clean house.

“If the Lions do capsize again — if they clean house and set course for yet another rebuild — then Stafford could be on the block given his age, health, contract status and so on. Short of that, he’s staying put, and that’d definitely true heading into the trade deadline on Nov. 3, regardless of Dallas’ interests.”

Nation, do you think the Lions should trade Stafford before the deadline?
