Michigan picks up 3-star CB twin brothers from Texas for Class of 2018

Heading into Thursday, the University of Michigan football program had earned two verbal commits this month from high school players in the Class of 2018, upping their total to five.

The most recent was the addition of 3-star running back Christian Turner (Buford, GA) back on April 10. And just days efore that, it was 4-star cornerback Myles “Spider” Sims (Atlanta, GA) pledging his allegiance to the Wolverines.

On Thursday, Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh made not one, but two more additions to their freshman Class of 2018. And you’re not seeing double, they earned commitments from a pair of twin brothers, Gemon and German Green (DeSoto, TX).

Both Green Bros. play the cornerback position, a spot on the field that Harbaugh and company in the early years of his Michigan regime have been really emphasizing to recruit and develop.

Of the two, Gemon is the more heralded player. 247Sports lists him as a top-50 player in the state of Texas and the No. 32 cornerback in the country. Gemon received a scholarship offer from Michigan back in early February, among the bevy of offers he received from Power 5 schools.

German meanwhile is listed as the No. 123 player in the Lone Star State and a top-50 cornerback nationally. He has not received as many offers as his brother. That and his lower ranking could be due to missing the entire 2016 season with an ACL injury.

Both German and Gemon stand roughly 6-foot-2 an weigh 195 pounds. The two reportedly made a visit to Ann Arbor earlier this week and it seemed to leave a good enough impression on them.

MICHIGAN CLASS OF 2018

With the pledge of the Green brothers, Michigan now has a total of seven commitments for the Class of 2018. It is also the fifth defensive player and third cornerback on the list thus far.

The state of Texas is considered one of if not the richest state in the union when it comes to high school football talent. The 2018 class will mark the fourth for head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the Green brothers will be just the second and third players from Texas to commit to Michigan.

Here is a look at the current Class of 2018:

  • 4-star OG Emil Ekiyor (Indianapolis, IN) | Committed 10/02/16
  • 4-star CB Myles Sims (Atlanta, GA) | 04/07/17
  • 4-star Aidan Hutchinson (Dearborn, MI) | Committed 02/21/17
  • 4-star OLB Otis Reese (Leesburg, GA) | Committed 06/08/16
  • 3-star CB Gemon Green (DeSoto, TX) | Committed 04/20/17
  • 3-star RB Christian Turner (Buford, GA) | Committed 04/10/17
  • 3-star CB German Green (DeSoto, TX) | Committed 04/20/17
