DETROIT MERCY TITANS
LAST TWO WEEKS: L @ UIC, 78-64; L @ VALPO, 81-74, W @ OAK, 93-88
OVERALL RECORD: 3-14, 1-4 Horizon
Well now there’s a good way to stop another long losing streak. Sure, a 1-2 stretch is not all that impressive but when there is gradual improvement over each of those three games, capped off with a road win against an in-state conference foe being hyped like OU has been, that’s something to hang your hat on if you’re Detroit.
And outside of a late second-half spurt by Illinois-Chicago, the Titans were ‘in the game’ so to speak in all of their recent three games. Junior forward and Saginaw-native Jaleel Hogan was the team’s leading scorer during this recent stretch. He averaged a tick more than 21 PPG, albeit aided by a dominant 39-point showing against Oakland. The scoring dispersal is still a bit erratic but it’s coming along. Chris Jenkins nearly averaged a double-double over the last two weeks (34 points, 23 rebounds combined).
It’s going to be a trying and rebuilding season for first-year head coach Bacari Alexander and the Titans, but this recent two-week stretch could be a microcosm of the improvement the team is making and striving for next season. As for the next two weeks, here’s what is coming up:
