In the case of Michigan State getting blown out 80-63 on the road against Purdue on Saturday, it was adding injury to insult. Late in the game, Spartans guard Eron Harris suffered a gruesome knee injury where he needed to be stretchered off the court.
On Sunday, the team learned that his season and collegiate career is over.

The fifth-year senior Harris was third on the team in scoring with 10.7 PPG, one of three Spartans averaging double-figures in that department. In his two years with the Spartans, he averaged just a tick under 10 PPG in 62 career games, shooting better than 41 percent from three-point range.
The loss of Harris proves to be a huge blow to Michigan State (16-11, 8-6 Big Ten), who is squarely on the bubble as March draws closer. Losing the team’s third-leading scorer means more players need to step up, most notably senior Alvin Ellis III and sophomore Matt McQuaid.
Both of Michigan State’s next two games are at home, starting with Thursday, February 23 against Nebraska. Then (11) Wisconsin pays a trip to East Lansing on Sunday, February 26.
