According to reports, No. 1 Novak Djokovic has defaulted from the 2020 U.S. Open after hitting a lineswoman in the throat with a tennis ball.
The incident came after Djokovic lost a game. As he was walking away, he hit a tennis ball that struck a lineswoman in the throat. The woman reportedly shouted out in pain as she went to the ground.
After a lengthy discussion, Djokovic has been defaulted and will not have a chance to defend his title.
"It's tough for you, whatever call you make, I understand," Djokovic tells #USOpen officials. He slapped a ball toward the back wall and inadvertently hit a female linesperson with it, in the throat, after Carreno Busta went up 6-5. She left the court. They're still discussing.
