Heading into the 2022 NFL regular season, some people believed Dan Campbell would have the Detroit Lions contending for a playoff spot, but most did not think that would be a real possibility until 2023. As we now know, the Lions came up just short of making the playoffs, despite winning eight of their final ten games to finish with a 9-8 record. Yet, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did make the NFL Playoffs, despite finishing with a losing record.
What did Dan Campbell say to the Manning brothers?
On Monday night, during the Wild Card matchup between the Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys, Campbell joined Peyton and Eli Manning on their latest ‘ManningCast’ that aired on ESPN2.
During their conversation, Campbell was asked if it was frustrating for him to watch the 8-9 Buccaneers getting beaten soundly in the playoffs, while his 9-8 Lions did not get in.
“I would say that it is frustrating, but we are also, we’re responsible for that, too,” Campbell said. “We had our chance and it was a little too late, too little too late. We had a chance early in the year. But, if anything, it motivates you. That’s what it does. That’s why I like watching these games. It just fuels your fire.”
You can bet Dan Campbell and the Lions are going to do everything they can in 2023 to get off to a solid start to their season, so they are not in a position as they were in 2022.
