Opening Day for the Detroit Tigers is just three days away and leading up to that, general manager Al Avila will have some very difficult decisions to make in terms of which players he will keep on the final roster and which ones he won’t.
On Monday, the Tigers announced a plethora moves, including re-assigning top prospect Casey Mize to an “alternate training location.”
But that other moves will the Tigers make before they announce their final Opening Day roster on Thursday?
Well, Evan Woodbery of MLive, who has done a fabulous job of covering the Tigers during what has been a crazy (to say the least offseason), published a piece on Tuesday where he predicts 6 moves Avila will make in the next 48 hours.
Here is what Woodbery predicts will happen. Do you agree?
1. Michael Fulmer is activated from the 45/60-day injured list. Outfielder Troy Stokes (broken hand) is placed on the 45/60-day injured list.
2. The Tigers select the contracts of Ramirez and Mercer.
3. Four non-roster players are reassigned to Toledo: pitchers Dario Agrazal and Shao-Ching Chiang; infielder Brandon Dixon; and outfielder Jorge Bonifacio.
4. Pitcher Anthony Castro, infielder Willi Castro and outfielder Derek Hill are optioned to Toledo. They are all on the 40-man roster.
5. Infielder Dawel Lugo remains on the club until Norris and Cameron return from the COVID list, at which point he will be designated for assignment and put through waivers.
6. The Tigers form a non-roster traveling taxi squad comprised of catcher Eric Haase and two other players. Dixon and Bonifacio seem like good candidates because they are veterans.
