Former Detroit Lions special teams captain Jalen Reeves-Maybin is getting another shot on the postseason stage.
The Chicago Bears have promoted the 30-year-old linebacker to their active roster ahead of Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, following a strong performance in their previous playoff game. The move comes after Chicago placed starting linebacker T.J. Edwards on injured reserve, opening the door for the veteran to step into a larger role.
Reeves-Maybin, originally selected by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, spent seven seasons in Detroit and established himself as one of the league’s top special teams players. During his time with the Lions, he appeared in 97 games and recorded 206 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 quarterback hits, 8 passes defended, 5 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions. His best defensive season came in 2021, when he posted 82 tackles (53 solo), four tackles for loss, and earned significant snaps as an inside linebacker.
After a brief stop in Houston in 2022, Reeves-Maybin returned to Detroit in 2023, where he was again a core special teams contributor and team leader. Now with Chicago, he has appeared in three games this season, logging two tackles while continuing to provide value on coverage units.
As the Bears prepare for a high-stakes playoff showdown, Reeves-Maybin’s experience, leadership, and special teams excellence could play a key role, adding another chapter to the career of a former Lions captain who continues to find ways to impact winning football in January.
