Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was suspended for tonight’s game against the Vancouver Canucks after a retaliatory punch to the face of Lightning forward Mathieu Joseph, who had delivered a questionable hit from behind on Larkin during Thursday night’s regular season opener.
Joseph, however, escaped punishment from the NHL. Needless to say, the Red Wings and their fans weren’t exactly pleased.
Head coach Jeff Blashill, who explained yesterday that he was “pissed” over the situation, had to have a difficult conversation with his young son as to why there was no supplemental discipline for Joseph.
“When I talked to my son last night as he asked questions about why was the punch with the glove on more dangerous than the other one, I had to explain that it isn’t for me, personally,” Blashill said. “But that’s just my own opinion.”
