Jeff Okudah welcomes challenge of facing Packers QB Aaron Rodgers

When all is said and done, there is absolutely zero doubt that Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will be a Hall of Famer. In fact, if you happened to check out Rodgers Week 1 performance against the Minnesota Vikings, you would have seen what was one of the best QB performances of the season so far.

In that game, Rodgers, who many have said is washed up, completed 32 of 44 passes (72.7%) for 364 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers defeated the Vikings 43-34.

Up next for Rodgers and the Packers is the Detroit Lions, who are coming off a devastating 27-23 loss to the Chicago Bears.

When the Lions and Packers square off this weekend in Green Bay, Lions rookie CB Jeff Okudah will not only be making his NFL debut, but it will be the first NFL game he has ever attended in his life.

Okudah, who said he watched the Lions Week 1 game at home with his parents, welcomes the challenge that Rodgers will bring to the table.

“I think that I’m really excited for Sunday’s matchup. As a cornerback, I would hope that you’d welcome any challenge, no matter how big it is, how small it is, and you approach it the same,” Okudah said Thursday in a video conference with Detroit media. “So, on Sunday, I’m really excited — (to) go to my first NFL game. That will be a pretty cool experience. Never really been to (an) NFL game. So, just to get that crossed off my list, I think it’d be pretty cool.”

Okudah, who has been described as a cerebral and well-prepared cornerback, realizes that being prepared is key.

“I think the first first step is talking to other cornerbacks,” he said. “I’ll reach out to guys like Aqib Talib and Stephon Gilmore — kind of get their thoughts on the receiver. And then, I’ll talk to coach (Boston College head coach) Jeff Hafley. Then, after that, kind of diving into the film — going to first, second down, third down, red-zone stuff, personnel groupings.”

“I’m really diligent in the process, and make sure I spend a lot of time watching films, so I can cross the T’s and dot all the I’s,” Okudah added.

Okudah is right about one thing, playing against Aaron Rodgers, Devante Adams, and the rest of the Packers offense is certainly going to be a challenge.
