No Bench for Báez: A.J. Hinch Confirms Continued Playtime

Despite Javier Báez's struggles at the plate, Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed he will not be benched and is expected to regain form.

What is going on!? Adduci called up, is Miguel Cabrera injured?

Immediately after Friday night’s loss to the Astros, outfielder Jim Adduci was recalled from Triple-A Toledo. The club has not yet confirmed. Aducci was sent down on Sunday, as the Tigers elected a three man bench in lieu of having more arms in the bullpen.

Given the recent option, Adduci normally must wait for 10-days before returning to the big club unless someone goes on the disabled list. No corresponding move has been given as of this moment.

Whatever the corresponding move is, likely someone will be going on the disabled list. Speculation has run wild on who might be going on the disabled list. One of the names being thrown out: Miguel Cabrera.

With the Tigers season all but over, it may be in the best long-term interest of the organization for Cabrera to be sidelined to heal for a while. It is no secret that Miggy has been dealing with injuries all season long, starting with the World Baseball Classic. Along with injuries, Cabrera has had a lot on his mind with his native home, Venezuela in political turmoil. Maybe, a little break for the Tigers slugger is just what the doctor ordered as the focused has shifted to the 2018 season. However, again, there has been no corresponding move given yet, nor confirmation from the team.

Adduci has been a type of spark plug for the Tigers this season, first making an appearance in Minnesota and holding his own at the plate. He’s currently hitting .298/.377.468 in 53 plate appearances at the big league level.

According to the Evan Woodbury, “…Adduci has played first base in the past, he’s worked exclusively as an outfielder for the Tigers and Mud Hens.” Could the Tigers be giving Adduci a tryout at first base? It’s possible but unlikely.

We’ll continue to update the story once we have more information
