Mumphery has also been banned from campus and using all university facilities through the end of 2018.

The sexual misconduct violation stems from a incident in March of 2015, when Memphery allegedly sexually assaulted a female student in her dorm room; the victim reported the crime to campus authorities later that evening. Police reports detail that Mumphery and the woman met through an online dating site, but there appears to be major conflict from both sides, specifically with if the behavior between the two parties was consensual.
The case was eventually forwarded from MSU Police to the Ingham County Prosecutors’ Office, but charges were ultimately never filed because the case “could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and the accuser did not return contact.”
Mumphery received his bachelor’s degree at the end of the 2014 academic calendar and had plans to re-enroll at the school and continue his studies in order to earn a master’s. The police report says that the MSU Division of Student Affairs and Services informed Mumphery through email that he had violated the school’s sexual misconduct code. Not only would he be banned from the university, but he would be arrested if he were to violate that order.
Mumphery in four seasons (2011-14) played in 54 games and tallied 88 catches for over 1,300 yards and seven touchdowns. Many Spartan fans remember that Mumphery was the recipient of a Connor Cook pass in the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic against Baylor that capped a 20-point comeback victory in the fourth quarter.

Mumphery was later selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft that year by the Houston Texans. He’s played in 27 games combined over his first two seasons, catching 24 passes for 198 yards. He saw significant time in the special teams game as well for Houston as a rookie, logging over 610 yards on 50 punt and kick returns.
