On Saturday, May 21, at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint, former Michigan State star forward Morris Peterson and rapper Snoop Dogg will host a celebrity basketball game as a fundraiser for the struggling city.
Along with Peterson and Snoop Dogg, Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond, Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph, New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram and former Michigan State guard Jason Richardson will all be guests.
The list doesn’t stop there though. According the Peterson, there will be plenty more big names that will be showing up to play or watch come Saturday, but he’s keeping those details under wraps for now.
The event is open to the public, with tickets ranging from $10-$25 for arena seats and $50-$150 for seats on the floor. Tickets are being sold at Ticketmaster.com and in the Dort Federal Event Center’s box office.
When asked about what he hopes the event brings to the people of Flint, Peterson spoke about how he hopes it helps raise spirits and distract everyone from the disaster around them, even if only for a few hours.
“We want to make people feel good and continue to bring awareness to the Flint water crisis,” Peterson said. “I don’t want it just to be swept under the rug and this is one of my ways of giving back just to bring people together and forgetting about everything for a few hours.”
If you’re unable to make it out to Flint for the game, you can still watch online as the game will be streamed at www.worldartistrefuge.com.
All proceeds from the game will go toward the Morris Peterson Jr. Foundation for water relief efforts.
