Detroit Lions select TE James Mitchell in 5th Round of 2022 NFL Draft

It has been a long wait with the Detroit Lions not having a pick in the 4th Round of the 2022 NFL Draft but just moments ago, they made their 5th Round pick.

With the No. 177 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Lions have selected TE James Mitchell out of Virginia Tech.

Here is what Dan Brugler of the Athletic had to say about Mitchell before the draft.

A three-year starter at Virginia Tech, Mitchell was a versatile tight end in former offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen’s offense, splitting his time inline and in the slot. His final college numbers look more like a single-season stat line than career production, but an inconsistent Hokies’ passing game and ACL injury as a senior put his career trajectory on a different path. Mitchell is a basketball athlete on grass with the scheme versatility to attack defenses in different ways. As a blocker, he doesn’t have the power to control the point of attack, but he can work himself into position, ride the bull and get the job done, especially as a zone blocker. Overall, Mitchell needs to stay healthy and cultivate elements of his game, but he is a three-level pass-catching threat with outstanding body control and hand strength. He has NFL starting potential as an H-back and would be drafted higher if not for his knee injury.

Nation, what do you think of this pick?

Why Kenneth Walker III Is a Great Draft Pick for the Seattle Seahawks

Though the Seattle Seahawks were rumored to draft a quarterback with the 40th or 41st pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, they went with Minnesota Golden Gophers defensive end Boye Mofe and then Michigan State Spartans running back Kenneth Walker III.

Walker had two decent seasons at Wake Forest in a part-time role before transferring to Michigan State for his junior season. He broke out in a big way with the Spartans in 2021, rushing for 1,636 yards and 16 scores. His 50.2% college dominator rating checks in as a 99th-percentile clip, according to PlayerProfiler, and his 4.38 40-yard dash falls in the 98th percentile. On the negative, Walker made just 13 catches in 2021, but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't have success on passing downs in the pros.
