Jim Harbaugh proclaims Michiganโ€™s starting QBโ€ฆ for now

Believe it or not, Jim Harbaugh actually revealed Michigan's starting quarterback for 2022. At least for now.

Who will Jim Harbaugh name Michiganโ€˜s starting quarterback for the upcoming season? Cade McNamara or J.J. McCarthy?

This is a question that has been debated ever since the moment the Wolverines lost to Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals back in January.

On Tuesday, Harbaugh was at the Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis and he actually revealed who is Michiganโ€™s starting quarterback, at least for now.

Jim Harbaugh proclaims Michiganโ€™s starting QBโ€ฆ for now

When first asked about Michiganโ€™s quarterback competition, Jim Harbaugh gave a perfect โ€˜Jim Harbaughโ€™ answer.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be tough for Cade to beat J.J. out,โ€ Harbaugh said. โ€œItโ€™s going to be tough for J.J. to beat Cade out. Put the balls out there on Aug. 3, and then theyโ€™ll have at it.โ€

But when asked about how Cade McNamara has approached fall camp without being named the starter, Harbaugh spilled the beans.

โ€œWho said he wasnโ€™t entering as the starter for fall camp? โ€ฆ I didnโ€™t say he wasnโ€™t the starter,โ€ Harbaugh said.

โ€œYeah, Cade is the starting quarterback. When we line up, first practice, heโ€™ll be with the first team. Now eventually, over the training camp, J.J. will get the same opportunity. Heโ€™ll get the same opportunity that Cade will. Theyโ€™re both gonna get a ton of reps. There will be time to have that competition and determine who the starting quarterback is for the first game.โ€

One thing is for certain, Harbaugh believes Michiganโ€™s passing game can be really special in 2022.

โ€œI really believe our passing game is going to get even better, too,โ€ Harbaugh said. โ€œI thought it was good (last year). Itโ€™s got a chance to be really, really good (this year). โ€ฆ Lean on that as well (as the rushing attack), you know? Be like a pitcher having a great fastball and a great a curve. I think we have the potential for that.โ€

Well, we now know that Jim Harbaugh had Cade McNamara as his starting quarterback but donโ€™t sleep on J.J. McCarthy, who is going to be given an equal opportunity to win the job in camp.

Nation, who do you believe should be Michiganโ€™s starting quarterback to start the 2022 season? Do you think Jim Harbaugh has already made his decision?

  1. I would love to see JJ finally get his chance. He seems to have more skills than Cade who seems more like a game manager than a game changer. Would like to see Harbaugh be a little more bold and give the younger guy the reins. Too often JJ was put in for very brief periods of time and often just to run the ball. He is good at that but can throw too so let him loose Jim.
