Kiper: Lions could find an answer at right tackle on Day 2 of the NFL draft

It’s been beaten into the heads of Detroit Lions fans all off-season. The team must strongly address the offensive line in free agency and/or the NFL draft. A primary position of concern happens to be at right tackle. The Lions thought they had a solution in LaAdrian Waddle but that plan exploded in their faces. Jason Fox, Cornelius Lucas, Michael Ola, Corey Robinson… the starting RT has been a constant revolving door.

On Tuesday, longtime ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. gave reporters some insight on a few options the Lions will have on Day 2 of April’s draft.

“The Day 2 guys, potentially at this point, will be Taylor Decker, Ohio State — he’s not a guaranteed one, he played left tackle, but I think he’ll play right tackle in the NFL,” Kiper said. “(Shon) Coleman, from Auburn, would be in that mix as well.”

Kiper went on to even offer some Day 3 alternatives at the position:

“A versatile kid, like Tyler Johnstone from Oregon could be a nice Day 3 pick,” Kiper said. “And I like Pearce Slater as an under-the-radar guy, out of San Diego State, in the later rounds.”

Whichever direction the Lions choose to go in the draft, one thing is for sure – it would behoove them to use one of their selections on the thinnest position on the team.
